Premier League Title Betting

Premier League

Everyone may be focusing on the Olympics right now, but the start of the new Premier League season is getting closer and closer. Beginning on Saturday 18th August 2012, it will be here before we know it.

There are of course many exciting aspects to the top flight in England getting underway again, but many people’s attention will be taken by the title race. Who is going to contest it? Will it be as close as last year?

Speaking about last season to begin with, it really was quite the battle between Manchester United and Manchester City. Anything similar to this again and football fans and betting pundits will be in for a treat once again.

In fact, the rivalry between City and United that is a key ingredient to the upcoming season potentially being one of the best ever. City want to retain their title, while United are after revenge.

They are the favourites when it comes to the football betting markets too. Roberto Mancini’s men are available at 13/10, while Sir Alex Ferguson and his team are slightly further adrift at 13/5. Which way will it go, red or blue?

It isn’t just the two Manchester clubs that want to win the title this year though. Far from it. As the Champions of Europe, Chelsea will be looking to be major contenders. After a disappointing season last year – in terms of league position at least – they are hoping to come storming back.

With Roberto Di Matteo in charge, they have made some big signings and at 5/1, they represent some decent betting value for 1st position. It may take them time to gel and it will be important not to have a Champions League hangover, but if they get off to a good start, there is every chance.

You then have two North London clubs hoping to perform slightly above their station. Arsenal are 12/1 for the title, while Tottenham – under new boss Andre Villas-Boas – are 25/1.

They are definitely the outsiders and being brutally honest, even if either of them are top at Christmas, you wouldn’t expect them to hold off the challenge of United, City or Chelsea all season.

So, the two Manchester clubs are definitely the front runners, but they will have some company in the battle for 1st position, certainly in the first couple of months of the new campaign.

It is all set to be another cracking title race and one many are looking forward to. Place your bets now!
