Olympic Football Betting

The men’s Olympic football reaches the quarter-final stage this weekend, and it seems like an excellent time to have a look at the key markets of this tournament.
Great Britain are still in the mix of course after topping their group and with Spain – who were much fancied to be successful – already out, the race for the medals has been thrown wide open.
Focusing on the chances of Stuart Pearce’s men to begin with, they are definitely favourites to progress to the semi-finals. On Saturday evening they take on South Korea and you can back the host nation to make it through at 15/11.
Looking further ahead, it is worth backing Team GB to get a medal in the men’s football. They are gaining momentum all the time and as they are two wins away from what will be a memorable final, it is worth backing them at 333/100 to at least secure silver.
As for who is going to win the gold, there is definitely hope for Great Britain, but at the moment the overwhelming favourites are Brazil. They were the pre-tournament team to beat and this hasn’t changed with odds of 4/7 to go all the way. Incidentally, Team GB are available at good value of 7/1.
There is still room for surprises in this tournament though. After Spain lost two and drew one of their three group matches – without scoring a goal – who knows what could happen next?
If you are keen for an outside bet, Senegal are perhaps a decent shout at 14/1 to go all the way. They showed their grit against Great Britain and then some quality in front of goal against Uruguay.
Unbeaten so far, they are gaining confidence with every contest and will look to take the game to Mexico in a fascinating quarter-final. You certainly know you are in a game when against Senegal.
The final market to take a look at is the top goalscorer one. Leading the way at the moment is Senegal’s Moussa Konate with four goals and he is the favourite for the golden boot at 2/1 going into the quarter-finals.
You then have the man most people were talking about prior to the tournament, Brazil’s Neymar, available at 5/2. With Brazil expected to go all the way to the final, their star player is likely to add to his two goals so far.
In terms of value though, Great Britain’s Daniel Sturridge is worth backing. The Chelsea striker has two goals to his name so far and is 12/1 to be the top goalscorer come the end of the tournament.
With a talented midfield behind him – including Joe Allen, Ryan Giggs, Aaron Ramsey and Tom Cleverley – and a creative strike partner in Craig Bellamy, Sturridge should have plenty of chances and he is definitely a natural goalscorer.
Overall, there is time for plenty more fun and games in the men’s football of the London 2012 Olympics.
